As a scientist, you are expected to actively participate in our preclinical research program developing novel vaccine candidates.


Based at the company’s state-of-art laboratories in Oxford Business Park, South Oxford, you will be joined by a team of enthusiastic and like-minded scientists who thrive on research innovation and excellence.



The Opportunity

Using our core technology, the SpyTag/SpyCatcher protein superglue, you will be part of the preclinical vaccine development team and will work on the production and process development of our advanced candidates.


The scientist position involves supporting the on-going programme of vaccine development with a particular emphasis on recombinant protein and VLP production, purification, and QC analysis. Our VLP technology is used in Covid-19 vaccine development and we aim to broaden that knowledge to other diseases enabling rapid response to new pathogens. In that framework, the role will further involve generation of new VLP platform technology used to display antigens from different pathogens.


You will be highly organised, motivated, and with proven experience in protein and/or VLP purification and analysis. You will have good interpersonal skills and be able to interact productively and accurately with other team members. Previous laboratory experience, good teamwork, and the ability to innovate are essential.

Key responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day-to-day production of VLPs
  • Engage actively with the process development of VLP for cGMP manufacture.
  • Investigate new methodologies that can be applied to the production, purification, and QC of new protein and/or VLP vaccine candidates.
  • Attend training in technical areas as required by the research projects.
  • Produce well-written, compliant, and traceable laboratory notebooks and raw data files.
  • Write and review protocols and SOPs when required.
  • Contribute to the efficient running, cleanliness, and tidiness of the laboratory.


Selection criteria


  • A degree in a relevant biological subject.
  • Previous experience in process development and VLP production.
  • Experience in operating AKTA FPLC system.
  • Experience in protein analysis.
  • Self-motivated, technically competent, and capable of working independently in a laboratory.
  • Keen to learn new techniques.
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing demands whilst operating under pressure to deadlines.
  • Good documentation and computer proficiency (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
  • High-level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to write factual reports.



  • Sterile technique and experience in tissue culture
  • Advanced experience in working with specific virus-like-particles (VLP), especially HBsAg.
  • Experience in fermentation.
